Top 10 European Goalscorers

European Football is the most lucrative football in the world, apart from the World Cup which comes first. It is every professional player’s dream of either play in the UEFA Champions League or the Europa League. This European success comes after finishing in the top tier of domestic leagues. The top 5 European Leagues include the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A. Let’s focus on the top 10 European goal scorers in the entire continent.

1.     Mohamed Salah

Since making a move from AS Roma during the summer, Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah has become the top scorer for both club and country with 43 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. According to Who Scored statistics, Mo Salah has scored 31 goals in the English Premier League 2017/2018 season out of Liverpool’s 80 goals. This means that he has contributed 39% of those goals.

2.     Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has proven time and time again why he is Barcelona’s messiah. The Argentine magician has been in fine form in front of goal this season. Messi has scored 29 goals in La Liga out of Barcelona’s 83. He has contributed 35% of goals already, with a good number of his goals coming from breathtaking free kicks.

3.     Robert Lewandowski

The Polish attacker has been in fine scoring form for Bayern Munich this season. He has 28 Bundesliga goals out of Bayern Munich’s 84. He has contributed 33% of those goals. Lewandowski is known for his thunderbolt strikes and regarded as one of the best finishers in the world.

4.     Ciro Immobile

Ciro Immobile has had a good season with Lazio even though the club has not yet secured a top four finish in the Serie A table. Immobile has scored 27 out of 79 Lazio goals in the Serie A this season. This converts to a contribution of 34% of Lazio goals in this campaign.

5.     Harry Kane

Harry Kane has been a scoring machine since the beginning of the 2017/2018 English Premier League season. He was the leading European goal scorer for the better part of the year, before injuries crippled in and other strikers overtook him. He already has scored 26 goals for Tottenham out of 66. He has contributed 39% of the team goals.

6.     Mauro Icardi

Mauro Icardi has scored 25 goals for Inter Milan this season out of 54 in the Serie A. This converts to a contribution of 46% of total Inter goals in the Serie A this season. Inter Milan currently sits 7th on the table, but Icardi is trying to score enough for a top four finish which seems tough.

7.     Edison Cavani

Edison Cavani is the leading goal scorer for PSG after over taking former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic this season. The Uruguayan has scored 25 out of 103 Ligue 1 goals this season for PSG. This amounts to a contribution of 24%.

8.     Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo, also known as CR7 has been in fine form for both club and country. The Portuguese has scored 24 goals for Real Madrid in 2017/2018 La Liga season out of a total of 80 goals. This is a 30% contribution of Real Madrid’s La Liga goals. Ironically, Ronaldo wouldn’t have been on this list as he barely scored in the first leg but became resurgent in the second leg.

9.     Luis Suarez

The Uruguayan striker has scored23 goals out of 83 for Barcelona in La Liga this season. This is a contribution of 28% of the goals. He is one of the best finishers in the world, but he has struggled for form in recent years due to injuries.

10.Paulo Dybala

The Argentina striker has scored 21 goals out of 78 for Juventus this season. This is a contribution of 27% of the goals. Lionel Messi has praised Dybala in numerous interviews saying that they play in a similar way, and that he cold be the one to fill his shoes for Argentina when he retires.
