Why is Donald Trump banning travel from these seven countries?
Donald Trump has said that the seven affected countries were identified by Barack Obama’s administration as “sources of terror”.
He said: “To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting. This is not about religion — this is about terror and keeping our country safe.”

Nevertheless his travel ban evolved out of an earlier proposal to ban Muslims from America in the wake of the San Bernardino terrorist attack in 2015.
London’s first Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan has argued that the ban will backfire as a recruiting sergeant for ISIS and other terrorists across the globe.
Republican US Senator John McCain has also warned that the immigration ban will probably “give ISIS more propaganda” in some parts of the world.
The ban covers seven countries for a temporary 90 day period
During Mr Obama’s time in office, he placed limited restrictions on certain travellers who had visited Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
Recent terror attacks in the US – including the San Bernardino attack and the Orlando nightclub shooting – were not committed by citizens from the seven banned countries.
Amnesty International said refugees are fleeing war and human rights abuses in these countries, adding: “The ban is cruel, inhumane, and violates international law.”
