Today Kenya marks Jamuhuri Day celebrations at the Safaricom International Sports Centre, Kasarani. This is after the President, Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the hoisting of Kenyan flag last night in Uhuru Gardens, Lang’ata.
Kenya is celebrating 50 years of independence which she attained in 12th December 1963. President Uhuru Kenyatta made history last night as he planted a tree next to where his father, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta planted a Mugumo tree 50 years ago. Guests include Heads of States from Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Malawi, Nigeria, Comoras Island, Sri Lanka, Tanzania etc. Other dignataries include the first lady Margaret Kenyatta, Chief of the KDF Julius Karangi, Deputy President William Ruto, Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, former president Mwai Kibaki, speakers of the Senate and the National Assembly, Cabinet Secretaries, Ambassadors, former VP Moody Awori and former first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta among others.
