Madiba passed on last night at his home in the comfort of his family. He was an anti-apartheid leader and the first black President of South Africa. He first joined ANC in 1948. Through the struggle he spent 27 years in Robben Island prison. He became president in 1994 and served for only one term.
Madiba suffered a lung infection in prison. The 1993 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate was in and out of prison for the past two years for a recurring lung infection. His last public appearance was in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Leaders across the world continue to pay their tribute.
