Pascal Tabu Ley Rochereau is dead! The self pronounced King of Rhumba died early this morning in a Brussels hospital in Belgium. He was receaving treatment of a stroke he suffered in 2008.
Tabu Ley was born in 1940 and launched his career in 1959 in Kinshasa, Congo. He wrote his first song aged 14 years. His hits Muzina, Alonzo and Shauri Yako propelled him to fame in Africa and beyond. He was also husband to song bird Mbilia Bel whom they had a daughter with before divorcing. During his career he proved to be a succesful vocalist and song writer. He was living in Paris, France before he died aged 73 years.
