Terrorists still hold shoppers and workers hostage 24 hours after the attack which took place yesterday at about 12:50 P.M at the Westgate Shopping Mall, Westlands. The attackers who are estimated to be around 10 to 15 fired shots randomly. The government has confirmed that 59 people are dead while 175 others have been injured and taken to various hospitals including the Aga Khan and MP Shah Hospitals.
The Al Shabaab terror group which is linked to the Al Qaeda network confirmed their involvement in the attack and blamed the Kenyan government of invading Somalia through the KDF. Many Kenyans have today come forward in large numbers at Kencom to donate blood to the recuperating survivors. This exercise will also go on in other towns including Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru. The Kenya Red Cross society started this campaign in order to help those who lost lots of blood. Security officers have contained the situation and Kenyans have been urged to be calm as the rescue operation continues. The president promised that action will be taken against the perpetrators.
